    SixPack's Six Cents Worth

Saturday, January 31, 2009, 12:04 AM CST [General]

After my latest league update, even I was a little PO'd about the shot becoming easier. well, to help prove it they put out the Ladies Tees out on the left side for me. I shot 229, 300, 202 for a 731. Luckily, for our team it was position round and we won the 2nd third of the league. This just proves my point that they opened it up on both sides. I want a tough shot even though shooting 300 is great, I still want it tougher for the playoffs, so the team with the best bowlers can win.

After I shot my 8th 300 on Wed. ofcourse I had to call some of my bowling buddies and tell them. I was shocked by the friend in Tn. that is bowling in a league where the lane guy is trying to put out the easiest shot possible. I don't know if they are delibritly trying to have someone shoot 900 there what. My friend is averaging 232 and is the 15th high average in the league. As of this week someone is averging over 250  using a plastic ball off of the corner.

Since I know Mark is a big Tn guy I'd like to know if this is the way all bowling is in Tn. Everyone looking for an Honor Score should bowl in Tn. Come to Il and try to do that. In Tn they obviously all bowl from the ladies tees on both the left and the right side. What a bunch of great bowling huh! If that isn't a jewelry store I don't know what is.

What do you have to say for yourselfs Tn bowlers? I'd like to hear how you defend bowling on such an easy condition!

    League Update

Thursday, January 29, 2009, 08:28 PM CST [General]

It's been awhile but I wanted to give you an update on my leagues. I'm a little upset with the management at Willowbrook Lanes. They started out with a nice tough leauge shot at the begining of the year. I was averaging around 185 on thier tough shot. On Friday nights at Pioneer Lanes in Plainfield bowling from the Ladies Tees I was averaging 222.

Hey, I'm throwing the ball good and the left side is not good at Willowbrook. Thirty pins difference in average, let's be real. We had a meeting at Willowbrook, because there  were bowlers complaining about how tough the shot was. We voted not to change it, but guess what??????????? They changed it in mid season, and ofcourse it got a lot better. I shot my first 300 of the year last night. What a joke! We also won the 2nd third of  the year so we are now in the playoffs and my average is now over 200, a 15 pin jump in 1/3 of the year! I want the tough shot back!!!!

I hope everyone else's leages are going better than this!

Hello and thanks four your comments... to answer your question, I throw a Storm Special Agent as my main strike ball. So far it's the best ball I've owned. It's a couple years old, so I'll probably switch in the near future to something as similar as possible.

    Hey man,

I thought your article was right on about TN bowlers. I am not in TN anymore but it does seem everyone wants to put out a shot that is very easy, as you say the ladies tees. LOL I have finally figured out what some of my problems are. I used to have most of my 16 lb equipment drilled using a leverage drill. I have gotten away from that but I am looking to get something new (looking at a HyRoad) to go back to that. Most of the stuff in my bag has been drilled to go long and that just doesn't work. I do use a plastic spare ball for single pin spares and even a few multi-pin spares. I am still in a learning curve here but I do see some improvement. Thursday night (2/5) was my best night in league so far this year and all I rolled was a 565. I did miss some easy spares and continue to work on that. I am bowling in a PBA Experience league and I think that is helping me too. Last Sunday (2/1) I had my high on that league. Viper pattern and I rolled a 732 for four games. Everything seems to be doing better and it helps to know what you have in your bag and how it will react on the lanes.
